lost post from ORD

things i saw while traveling:

in hartford, at perc place, eating breakfast, before journeying to the aeropuerto: two old ladies eating breakfast, one wearing a tshirt that declared "AMERICA IS BEAUTIFUL." i later discovered they were sisters, thanks to the sociable banter exchanged with other patrons of perc place. also overheard: "the only people not getting older are dead!"

ORD chili's: dudes with yamukuhs drink stella too... until it runs out and then we both scowl at the waitstaff. set a new personal best at the airport chili's - three stellas, one kamikaze and a corona (because the stella ran out). fun fact: they can't serve liquor and a beer at the same time (pretty sure that's just at the airport chili's), but my waitress knew how to time the transition perfectly and she got a tip commensurate with her skillz. the people next to me drank only diet coke and lemonade... funny how derisive glances register on your psyche, regardless of actual visual confirmation. on the way in, i saw a young lady who startlingly resembled a girl i went to high school with and i believe her boyfriend had had just enough of my attempted double-takes for confirmation by the time i was seated.

remember the sean puff-daddy puffy p-diddy combs music video where there's all the neon over his head as he eugoogolizes the notorious B.I.G.? that's in the connecting tunnel between C and D concourses of ORD and as i walked along the moving walkway therein, i was startled by a shout of "AY!" over my shoulder. as i cautiously turned to determine whether the exclamation was intended for myself or another traveler, i was simultaneously shocked and stoked to discover none other than shane mahoney of mahoney and company! needless to say, we shared a beer, relevant current anecdotes, road-warrior war stories and gloated over our upgrades to first class on the following legs of our respective journeys. mmmmmmmmmmm, yuppieness.

almost time to get on the plane to PDX for my second portland vacation in three weeks. ¡espectacular!
