disconnect

in an attempt to:

A - save some cash

B - get more HD channels

and C - get faster internets

we're going to be switching from directv and sonic.net to at&t uverse for all. this means two semi-interesting things will occur:

1 - i will now have four bills a month; netflix, rent, car payment and cellphonehomephoneinternettelevision.

2 - we'll be without internet for a week as apparently there is some insane federal law that you can't have DSL when you order new DSL. seriously, who wrote that brilliant bit of inconvenience? no halo, no IM, no LOLcats, no email, no flickr, no blogging, no checking the weather in estonia from home for a WHOLE WEEK.

also of note:

• i love lists.

their marketing is better than your marketing

i tried really hard not to post this, but when an ad is done right, it's almost as exciting as good art. this ad was so effective i:

1 - want to go buy all the product.

2 - watch the ad every day before i go work out.

3 - bookmarked the video in my youtube widget on my iphone.

4 - bought the song from the ad through the itunes wifi store widget on my iphone.

tense

last night i dreamt i was part of a university psychology experiment. it started as i entered a nicely appointed surgery recovery room in a hospital with the person performing the test, stephanie, a few friends and some random people.

in the room was a black chair, styled like a race car seat, with various machines hooked up to the back. the test administrator discussed the test parameters with me while everyone else milled around, socializing and examining the surroundings. then i sat in the chair and the headrest transformed to encase my entire head except for my face, tilting it to the right at about 30 degrees.

everyone started to file out, a few people saying they'd see me later and the administrator activated the machine which proceeded to insert an industrial-strength looking needle into my left temple, causing a brief, pinching pain and injecting the drug that was the agent of the experiment directly into my brain.

the chair then withdrew the needle, released my head and i was left alone to be observed while the drug took effect. simply put, the drug induced anger and paranoia and the behavioral responses of the subject were recorded. i fought off any outward display of my initial agitation and tried to cope with the increasing deep sense of dread. eventually i cracked and began to babble about something and maybe try to break some stuff in the room, the drug-induced fog in my head kept any solid memories from being retained.

the drug wore off pretty quickly, everyone came back in and i was examined for any immediate physical side effects. i attempted to tweet about the experience while i was coming down from the drug, however i was still too addled to successfully post from my phone. then, as dreams are often wont to do, the narrative continuity was destroyed and i found myself at a party, trying to find steph and explain something to someone and then some other thing...

the moral of the story?

i need a vacation.

general nerdery

Steph got me this awesome computer pin at the thrift store yesterday. Perfect timing, given that I was attending a meeting regarding "IT needs" this morning. I wore it proudly but, sadly, no one seemed to notice and if they did they must have been quietly thinking "what a dork" to themselves...
